Session Overview#
Toonlock treats the party to a well-deserved rest and relaxation trip at the Lotus Hotel and Casino, a flashy but lower-budget version of his own realm. The party enjoys spa treatments, shopping, gambling, and entertainment, but their night of revelry leads to a classic “hangover” scenario where they must piece together the previous evening’s events while dealing with the chaotic aftermath.
Arrival at the Lotus Hotel and Casino#
The party arrives through a portal that opens and closes every 24 hours, giving them a strict time limit for their stay. They’re greeted by Marvin Jr. Jr. Jr., the nerdy great-grandson of the casino’s founder, who provides them with gold cards loaded with 100 gold pieces for gambling and access to all amenities.
Available Activities:
- Casino with various gambling games
- Spa with massages, mud baths, saunas, and hot tubs
- Shopping for fancy clothes
- Roller rink and bowling alley
- Bar with open mic nights
- Magic show featuring an owlbear named FooFoo Cuddly Poop
- Mad Goon concert (the campaign’s equivalent of Daft Punk)
Spa Shenanigans#
The party decides to clean up at the spa after their recent adventures:
The Mud Bath Prank#
Silas and Bru devise an elaborate prank to scare Red while he’s relaxing in the mud bath. They plan to hide underwater and emerge as “mud monsters” while setting off explosives for dramatic effect.
Execution:
- Both succeed on stealth rolls to hide in the mud undetected
- Bru rigs fireworks from Helisanna ’s stage equipment
- The explosives work too well, creating a massive mess that covers the entire spa area
- Mud gets blown everywhere, including into the hot tub where Silas and Jasper are soaking
Consequences: A muscular half-orc spa worker (later revealed as Naomi) has to shut down the entire spa for deep cleaning, forcing everyone to evacuate.
Evening Entertainment#
Helisanna’s Performance#
Helisanna signs up for open mic night at the bar, performing solo acoustic versions of her metal songs including “Ogre Skulls” and teasing “Vampire Viscera.” Her performance goes well despite the dark subject matter, with the audience appreciating the musical quality.
Silas’s Scam#
While Helisanna performs, Silas runs a charity scam, claiming she has a deadly disease and collecting donations for her “treatment.” His deception roll of 24 convinces the entire bar, earning them 80 gold in sympathy donations.
Jasper’s Gambling Disaster#
Jasper immediately heads to the casino and plays a dice game called “craps” (fantasy version). True to his all-or-nothing barbarian nature:
- He loses 29 gold in the first few rounds
- Decides to bet everything (95 gold) on red
- Loses everything in spectacular fashion
- Returns to the group completely broke after only a few minutes
Shopping Spree#
The party visits the upscale shop Paraseldora to dress for the evening:
Outfit Choices:
- Olivia : Sharp three-piece pinstripe suit with fedora and feather
- Red : Ornate kimono-style robes with large beaded necklace
- Bru : Comic version of a white suit similar to Colonel Sanders
- Helisanna : Gothic dress with ornate black cloak and “peekaboo action”
- Silas : White summer suit with black tie and straw hat (Colonel Sanders style)
- Jasper : Settles for a robe after his gambling losses
The Fateful Toast#
The evening culminates when Marvin Jr. Jr. Jr. joins them for celebratory shots of top-shelf blue alcohol. Despite Elspeth ’s paranoid suspicions about being roofied, everyone except Olivia drinks the shots, leading to a complete blackout.
The Hangover Morning#
The party wakes up in their completely trashed hotel suite with no memory of the previous night:
Room Damage Assessment#
Discovered Chaos:
- Fire burning in the sink
- Lobby statue dressed in pieces of their clothing
- Feathers scattered everywhere
- Ungodly amount of snacks covering all surfaces
- BoxBox hanging from the chandelier tied up with a feather boa
- Mattress and blanket fort in the corner
- Bru wearing only a shirt as pants (legs through arm holes)
The Baby Mystery#
Jasper discovers a half-orc baby named Julius in Olivia ’s room, crying in a bassinet. The party initially panics, thinking Olivia has been turned into a baby, before realizing it’s a completely different person.
The Bathroom Surprise#
Bru and Elspeth investigate loud snoring and discover FooFoo Cuddly Poop, a massive owlbear, sleeping peacefully in the jacuzzi tub.
Matching Tattoos#
Bru and Helisanna wake up with matching “Live, Laugh, Love” tramp stamps in loopy script, apparently gotten while blackout drunk.
The Investigation Begins#
Missing Olivia#
The party initially believes Olivia is dead because her room is suspiciously neat compared to the chaos elsewhere. They search frantically while dealing with the immediate crises.
The Owlbear Situation#
Mike Bison, a legendary wrestler with a moving dragon tattoo, arrives with two Warforged bodyguards demanding the return of his owlbear. FooFoo is needed for the magic show in 30 minutes, and Mike Bison has a wrestling match to attend.
The party successfully lures FooFoo out of the bathroom using:
- Bags of snacks as bait
- A feather boa as a cat toy
- Silas ’s psychic daggers formed into mobile-like lights
Surveillance Footage#
Click and Clack (the Warforged) show the party security footage revealing their theft of FooFoo the previous night. The footage shows:
- Olivia was alive and with them during the initial tour
- Bru and Silas had an owlbear race, with Bru riding FooFoo and Silas riding Red (in owlbear form)
- Kevin was used as a sushi roll lure to entice FooFoo to race
- Elspeth officiated the race
- Bru won the race with a roll of 19 vs Silas ’s 18
The Angry Gnome Incident#
The Coffin Discovery#
While searching backstage, the party finds a gnome tied up in a coffin, wearing only underwear. The gnome immediately attacks them, screaming about his stolen chips.
The Gnome’s Story:
- Claims the party stole his golden chips while walking past his table
- Has been chasing them all night with his friends
- Was eventually knocked unconscious and stuffed in the coffin
- Demands his chips back before his friends arrive for revenge
The Magical Doritos#
Investigation reveals the “chips” are magical golden triangular chips that look like gold-dusted Doritos. These provide +3 Charisma for 15 minutes but are cursed with:
- Mild cheese addiction
- Constitution saves every 5 minutes or compulsion to eat another
- 40 chips total in the bag, guaranteeing eventual overconsumption
Resolution#
The party returns the chips to avoid conflict with the gnome’s vengeful friends: a buff female tiefling and a blue-skinned male half-orc who arrive to rescue their addicted companion.
Olivia’s Reveal#
The Truth Emerges#
Olivia is discovered perfectly alive and well, having:
- Avoided drinking the roofied shot entirely
- Gone to bed early after the Mad Goon concert
- Scheduled and enjoyed a relaxing 2-hour massage appointment
- Been watching Julius when Naomi needed to work
Marvin’s Confession#
Marvin Jr. Jr. Jr. admits to accidentally roofying the party with a failed experimental potion meant to help them “fully recuperate.” His incompetence with potion-making runs in the family, explaining the disaster.
The Romance Subplot#
Silas and Naomi#
The party learns that Silas had successfully wooed Naomi, the muscular half-orc spa worker and single mother to baby Julius. Despite his anxiety about whether drunk Silas was more charming than sober Silas , the party helps boost his confidence:
Support Spells:
- Helisanna casts Enhanced Ability for advantage on all Charisma checks
- Red provides Emboldening Bond and Guidance
- Elspeth serves as wingwoman
Successful Reconnection: Naomi agrees to continue seeing Silas , who saves her contact information as “Muscle Mommy” in his sending stone.
Session Resolution#
Compensation#
Marvin Jr. Jr. Jr. comps the party an additional night at the casino as an apology for the accidental drugging, giving them opportunities to:
- Actually remember a Mad Goon concert
- Explore more of the casino amenities
- Continue the Silas /Naomi romance subplot
Character Development#
Silas achieves what the party considers “the high point of his career” by successfully maintaining a relationship with someone clearly out of his league. The running joke about Naomi calling him “Sugar Bear” becomes a permanent character detail.
Notable Character Moments#
Bru’s Chaos#
Bru demonstrates his natural affinity for mayhem through:
- The explosive mud bath prank
- Stealing and racing an owlbear while blackout drunk
- His inexplicable ability to find and befriend dangerous animals
- Wearing clothing in the most impractical way possible
Jasper’s Gambling Problem#
Jasper ’s immediate loss of all his money establishes him as an “all gas, no brakes” character who makes impulsive decisions without considering consequences.
Red’s Peer Pressure Susceptibility#
Red continues his pattern of being easily influenced by the group, drinking despite his usual abstinence when pressured by his companions.
Olivia’s Responsibility#
Olivia demonstrates her mature, responsible nature by avoiding the party’s chaos and maintaining her commitments (massage appointment) while still helping care for Julius.
Running Gags and Callbacks#
Bru’s Name Mystery#
The ongoing mystery of Bru ’s real first name continues, with increasingly ridiculous guesses including “Colonel,” “Fart,” and Silas ’s fabricated “Piss Whistle.”
The Brown Obsession#
Bru ’s love of the mysterious drink “Brown” reaches new heights as he modifies even premium shots to include it, maintaining that all Brown is “chewy.”
Jasper’s Suspicious Behavior#
The party begins building a case that Jasper might be a werewolf based on:
- His destroyed robes (from transformation?)
- His mention of “handling many orphans” in ominous ways
- His love of magic shows (supposedly a werewolf trait)
- Never being seen with actual werewolves
Session Themes#
This interlude successfully captures classic “hangover” comedy while advancing character relationships and providing comedic relief from the main campaign’s serious threats. The session demonstrates how the party’s different personalities lead to both chaos and unexpected successes when their inhibitions are lowered.
Ellis (Taylor) effectively uses the hangover premise to explore character dynamics through both their blackout actions and their sober attempts to piece together the night, creating memorable moments that will likely be referenced throughout future sessions.
The Silas /Naomi romance subplot provides genuine character development while the various mysteries (baby, owlbear, angry gnome) create a perfect blend of comedy and adventure that showcases each character’s problem-solving approach.
