The Forge Heart

Ancient Anvil Temple • Concert Venue • Helja Ungar's Throne Room

Overview​

The Forge Heart is a legendary, ancient anvil temple forged from magma, deep inside High Forge. It is full of lava tubes and cavernous acoustics, and a great stone-and-iron gate at the end of the Great Hall separates it from the rest of the city. Doomfall played its biggest early concert there, and under the Iron Claws it became Helja Ungar's throne room.

Status as of Session 63: destroyed. Bru's charges wrecked the throne room when Silas killed Helja there (Session 36), and the Forge Heart then erupted "from an unstable volcano" as the party fled (Session 37 transcript). It has not been mentioned since.

This page is about the temple itself. Older versions of this page confused it with the tunnels beneath High Forge, where the resistance had its headquarters. Those are a different place.

The Concert Venue​

In Session 5, Sandra Talks's 10,000-gold booking put Helisanna's band in the Forge Heart in front of thousands. The party fitted it out themselves with flame turrets, a sound system, recording equipment and Bru's firework cannons, which doubled as defences. Two groups tried to rob or kill Silas before and during the show. The set started flat, but pyrotechnics and Red's blessing rescued it, and glowing-eyed fans climbed on stage for the finale.

Helja's Throne Room​

  • Planning the assault: After the vault heist, the party listed infiltrating the Forge Heart during the chaos as one way to bring Helja down (Session 31). The plan settled on a concert in the Great Hall, which runs straight up to the gate of the Forge Heart (Session 33 transcript). Two card-playing constructs and Iron Claws patrols guarded the gateway (Session 35 transcript).
  • Opening a path: The party needed a detailed city map so their magic paint could open a vertical route from the surface down to the Forge Heart, where they meant to bring the dragons in. They stole the maps from Olivia's old police precinct (Session 35).
  • The assassination: Lieutenant Grimjaw led Silas, posing as a traitor with a fake dragon orb, up flight after flight of stairs to Helja's throne. Bru, who had faked his own death, rigged the room with timed charges while Silas negotiated. When Helja agreed to shake on the deal the charges went off, Silas critically stabbed her, and Bru's cannon finished her. Her skeleton fell into her throne (Session 36).
  • The collapse: The throne room came down behind the party as the charges kept going off. Several Iron Claws lieutenants teleported out with rings (Session 36). As the party left the Great Hall, Grimjaw warned that the Forge Heart was about to blow, and it exploded (Session 37).

Session History​

  • Session 5 — The party stages Helisanna's concert for thousands in the Forge Heart and fends off two attacks on Silas.
  • Session 31 — Infiltrating the Forge Heart during the chaos is one of the options for the assault on Helja.
  • Session 33 — The DM sets out the approach: a concert in the Great Hall, which ends at the gate to the Forge Heart.
  • Session 35 — The party scouts the constructs guarding the gateway and steals maps to paint a route down to the Forge Heart for the dragons.
  • Session 36 — Silas and Bru kill Helja in her throne room in the Forge Heart; Bru's charges bring the room down.
  • Session 37 — The Forge Heart erupts as the party escapes through the Great Hall.
