Goliath Clan • Starship Builders • Red's Birth Family

Overview​

The Skyhammer Clan is a Goliath clan whose village stood near the summit of Grimvar's Spine. They were building starships to reach space and, the party was told, to challenge Eldora's artificial moon. Their ship could only be powered by someone of the main Skyhammer bloodline. Red, the party's cleric, turned out to be that bloodline's lost prince, Thurnok Skyhammer. When the clan put him into the ship in Session 22, it took him over permanently. The party left the Goliaths in disgust.

Status as of Session 63: gone from the mountain. By Session 38 their village was abandoned, and two Eldoran soldiers were tearing it down. The recaps do not say where the clan or their ship went. The party still holds a grudge against the Goliaths for what was done to Red.

Red's Heritage​

  • The journal: Red's adoptive mother Marion Cross left a journal, which Roscoe gave him. It revealed that Red was adopted, that his real name was Thurnok Skyhammer, and that the Twilight Company had placed the Crosses in hiding to protect him from the Eldoran Empire (Session 11).
  • Recognition: In the village, Elder Ragar, the clan's ancient leader, recognised the clan's style in Red's tattoo, which together with his birth name confirmed who he was. The clan was saddened to learn the Crosses had been murdered; they had lost touch with them (Session 17).
  • The massacre: The clan told the party that when Red was an infant, Eldoran knights attacked the village, killed most of its warriors, and took its scientists and technology (Session 17).

The Village and the Ship​

The party found a solarpunk village where technology blended into the mountain. It ran on white crystals similar to, but distinct from, Eldoran violescence, and its guards carried railguns (Session 17). Ragar explained that only the main bloodline could power the clan's spacecraft, and that the knowledge of how had died with Red's birth parents. To prove himself, Red had to survive the trials of the Worms Tunnel, a passage carved by an ancient serpent (Session 17).

  • The trials: Inside, the party solved Goliath tile puzzles and met Sol, a star-touched dragon guardian who answered Red's riddle and gave him a tomahawk from his parents. Sol sent the party through a portal to the astral tree and the trapped village of Lakeshore Vale (Sessions 20–21).
  • The sacrifice: The party came back to a blizzard and found an Eldoran knight, Eric, cutting down Goliath guards while Eldoran soldiers set off an avalanche. With the launch at stake, the clan's elder urged Red into a humanoid chamber in the ship, calling it "his destiny". Ports connected to his spine and nervous system, and his consciousness merged with the ship. He soon warned that the ship had taken him over rather than the other way round. After the battle, Bru found Red could not be removed without killing him. In grief and rage Bru stabbed the elder in the gut and swore that all goblins were now the clan's enemies. The party refused to join the clan's "space colonization mission", looted Eric's crystal armour and Goliath technology, and left (Session 22).
  • The blueprints: The party later studied the rocket ship blueprints they had taken, and Silas worried the design needed a living sacrifice to run (Session 23).

The Abandoned Village​

On the way to Greyport the party returned for the reality stones Scarlet needed to stabilise the pocket village. The village was deserted and half torn down. Two Eldoran soldiers, protected by a crystal-powered force field, were feeding its materials into an oven-sized cube: a "threshold" relaying matter to a "point alpha" somewhere else. At the table the players made clear they still hated the Goliaths for turning Red into "a battery", but hated the Eldorans too. They sabotaged the machine and took the stones (Session 38).

Session History​

  • Session 11 — Marion Cross's journal reveals that Red is Thurnok Skyhammer, a Goliath prince hidden from the Eldoran Empire.
  • Session 17 — The party reaches the Skyhammer village; Elder Ragar confirms Red's identity and explains the starship, the massacre, and the Worms Tunnel trials.
  • Session 20 — Red's trials begin; Sol gives him a tomahawk from his parents and sends the party to Lakeshore Vale.
  • Session 21 — The trial continues among Lakeshore Vale's trapped villagers until Sol reappears.
  • Session 22 — Eldoran forces attack the village; Red is merged into the starship; Bru stabs the elder, and the party leaves the clan behind.
  • Session 23 — The party studies the Skyhammer rocket blueprints.
  • Session 38 — The village stands abandoned; the party stops two Eldoran soldiers stripping it and takes the reality stones.
