Overview​

The Twilight Company is a covert organisation that runs jobs, safe houses and sabotage against the Eldoran Empire. Lady Viper founded it about fifty years ago after the Empire killed her family, and she still leads it. It gathers anarchists, misfits and people the Empire has hurt. Its headquarters is in Greyport, under and beside the Greyport Zoo, behind the front business Richard Jones Investments. Taco Cat has worked with it since the first sessions of the campaign.

Status as of Session 63: Taco Cat has just carried out the Company's strike on the Eldoran capital. Three bombs went off at once, at the barracks concert hall, the spaceport factory and the university research tower. The Company agent Finnegan was waiting at the docks to get the party out. George, its plant in the capital's city guard, was still under cover. Lady Viper is in Greyport.

Headquarters and Methods​

  • High Forge branch: Early in the campaign the Company held open meetings under the Little Hobble bar. Jobs on offer included car sabotage, political canvassing, artifact theft and scouting, and there were no hit jobs. It had an inner circle, and it worked High Forge politics to counterbalance the Iron Claws. Silas got in by marking himself as a member in Thieves' Cant (Session 3).
  • Greyport: A full operations floor runs beneath the zoo, reached from Victor's lab in the sewers under the chimera enclosure. It has heist schematics on the walls, a project board for destroying the Eldoran space station, zoo logistics that suggest the zoo is a front, and a special-ops wing (Session 43). Visitors come in through the lobby of Richard Jones Investments, where a bookcase opens to a seasonal latte password ("a tall matcha") (Session 47). Below the main floor is a converted dungeon of creature habitats and Lady Viper's sitting room, kept by a gaunt butler (Session 47).
  • Safe houses: The Company gave the party a three-storey brownstone across from the zoo when they gave the name of their old operation, Purple Patch (Session 43). In the Eldoran capital, its contact Toothy kept an apartment for the party, where Victor's bomb notes and supplies were waiting (Session 58).
  • Lady Viper's plan: She holds that the Empire's power rests on belief. Her targets are its places of worship, the spaceport in its harbour, and its violescence caches. At first she had no plan for the space station (Session 47). Silas's read is that the plan is meticulous about the burning and has nothing for afterwards; the party agreed to work with her and to add "finesse" to spare civilians (Session 47).

Members and Associates​

  • Lady Viper: Founder and leader. Her real name is Elizandra Legrand, which Olivia knows and keeps to herself (Session 47).
  • Victor: The party's Company contact, rescued from the Market Ward during the High Forge dragon attack (Session 7). After running the High Forge resistance's bomb lab, he moved to Greyport, and by Session 46 was working with Lady Viper ("Lady Viper tells me how to blow things up now").
  • Finnegan: A halfling agent. In the early sessions he was an information broker linked to George's disappearance, with dealings with both the Company and the Iron Claws (Sessions 2–3). He escorted the party into the Empire, supplied the bomb materials, and planned the escape routes (Sessions 54–63).
  • George: Olivia's grandson. He worked for the Company on Project Purple Patch, an investigation into rifts and missing pilgrims of Tyr (Sessions 3, 15–16), and defended the Company to Olivia as working against the Empire (Session 16). He later infiltrated the Eldoran city guard for the Company and named the three strike targets (Session 58).
  • Toothy: Keeper of the Company's safe house in the Eldoran capital (Session 58).
  • Others: Cyrus, the tiefling Rekha and a dwarf the recap calls "Vector" at the High Forge meeting (Session 3). Mira, Lanny and Courtney on the escape from High Forge, whose crates of the drug V the party made them sink (Session 7). Pat and Tino, guards at the Greyport headquarters (Session 43). The butler (Session 47).
  • Not a member: The old wiki listed the Milstrom warforged Roscoe as an operative. No recap says so.

History with Taco Cat​

  • Early jobs: In High Forge, Red found a hit order on his parents that bore a Company stamp, although the Company does not usually take contract killings and its job board had none (Session 3). The party then took a Company job sabotaging rival race cars and was paid for it (Sessions 4 and 6).
  • Escape from High Forge: During the dragon attack the party escaped through the Iron Claws' tunnels alongside a Company crew, and travelled on with them (Sessions 7–8).
  • Red's parents: Marion Cross's journal said the Company had placed Red's adoptive parents in hiding to protect him from the Empire (Session 11). The Eldoran spy Zeke turned out to be their murderer (Session 13).
  • The Travolta job: The party exposed Johnny Travolta, who was selling the Company out, and earned 600 gold and standing with the Company. The job happened between Sessions 18 and 20 and is recapped in Session 20.
  • After Arc 2: Silas asked the Company to help move supplies to the new communities around High Forge (Session 37).
  • Greyport: The party found the headquarters beneath the zoo (Session 43), stayed in its brownstone (Sessions 44–46), and met Lady Viper, who had been watching "Taco Cat" for some time (Session 47).
  • The Eldoran strike: Lady Viper briefed the party over a pre-dawn dinner and sent them with Finnegan (Session 54). In the capital, George gave them the targets and Toothy put them up (Session 58). They scouted the targets (Sessions 59–61), set the timing for midday to keep casualties down, planted the bombs (Session 62), and set them off together before fleeing toward Finnegan at the docks (Session 63).

Session History​

  • Session 3 — Olivia learns George was working with the Company on Project Purple Patch; the party attends an open Company meeting under the Little Hobble, and Red produces a Company-stamped hit order on his parents.
  • Session 4 — The party takes a Company job sabotaging rival race cars in Bays 10 and 12.
  • Session 7 — The party rescues the Company techie Victor during the dragon attack and escapes High Forge with a Company crew, sinking their crates of V.
  • Session 11 — Marion Cross's journal reveals the Company hid Red's parents from the Eldoran Empire.
  • Session 16 — The rescued George explains his Company work closing Shadowfell rifts and defends the Company as working against the Empire.
  • Session 20 — The recap covers the party's completed Company job exposing Johnny Travolta.
  • Session 43 — Following Victor, the party stumbles into the Company's headquarters beneath the Greyport Zoo and is given a safe house.
  • Session 46 — Victor reveals he now works for Lady Viper, who has plans against the Eldoran grid and space station.
  • Session 47 — The party enters through Richard Jones Investments and meets Lady Viper, who lays out her plan against the Empire.
  • Session 54 — Lady Viper briefs the party on infiltrating Eldoran and sends them with Agent Finnegan, who reveals George is embedded in the Eldoran army.
  • Session 58 — George, undercover in the city guard, names the three sabotage targets; Toothy houses the party.
  • Session 62 — The party, George and Finnegan fix the strike's timing and escape plans; the barracks bomb is armed.
  • Session 63 — The three bombs go off across the Eldoran capital as the party heads for Finnegan at the docks.
