Blue Moon Guitar

Overview​

The Blue Moon Guitar is the electric guitar of Lieutenant Steven Goldspring, Leliana's brother. It is painted with a blue crescent moon and strung with steel strings, and his will calls it his "Cooper electric guitar". Leliana recovered it in Session 57 and still carries it as of Session 63. It is how she switches between her two personas, Leliana and Helisanna, who are one woman, and she flies on it.

Mechanically the guitar is her Mandolin of Rude Truths, reflavored as Steven's guitar after Session 57. It keeps the mandolin's charges, so the Fly she casts from it is the mandolin's.

History​

Steven's guitar. In the memory-walk of Session 57, Leliana found her family's cottage as it once was, with Steven by the hearth playing the Blue Moon guitar. When he announced that he was enlisting, he told her the guitar would be hers as long as she kept playing: "you got to earn it." Steven was later murdered in his lab by Captain Steel for refusing to hand over his research.

The will. At Steven's military funeral, held on Leliana's birthday, Captain Steel read the will, which left the guitar to her. She found it in an open case on its own pedestal. Unlike the rest of the memory, the guitar was real and had weight in her hands. She picked it up while giving Steel a sideways look.

Two sides of one coin. When the party planted the World Seed in the Dead Forest and the World Tree's roots connected, Leliana felt the link to Helisanna. She understood that the two were "extremes of who you actually were, the two sides of the coin", and that she is both of them. The DM added: "with that guitar, it seems like you're able to switch into either persona whenever you'd like". For now she is fully one persona or fully the other, with no blending. Use Since​

  • The helmet sweep (Session 58). When Magic-Detection Helmets came through the Sexy Peacock, Leliana chose to stay rather than leave with Silas: "Mine's just guitar." The soldiers never scanned her table.
  • Flight (Sessions 61–62). At the barracks wall Leliana said, "I can fly, too. This guitar is awesome" (Session 61). In Session 62 she flew over the barracks wall on the guitar, using the Fly it carries over from the Mandolin of Rude Truths.
  • The tower falls (Session 63). As the research tower leaned against the city wall after the bombing, Leliana played "a sweet guitar riff".

Session History​

  • Session 57 — Walking her memories, Leliana sees her brother Steven play the guitar, inherits it by his will at his funeral, and learns that with it she can switch between her Leliana and Helisanna personas at will.
  • Session 58 — Leliana keeps the guitar with her through a magic-detection sweep at the Sexy Peacock, and the soldiers never check it.
  • Session 61 — At the barracks wall Leliana tells the party she can fly on the guitar.
  • Session 62 — Leliana flies back over the barracks wall on the guitar after arming a bomb inside.
  • Session 63 — Leliana plays a guitar riff as the bombed research tower leans against the city wall.
