Taco Cat

The Party • Band, Racing Team, and Wanted Criminals • Twilight Company Operatives

Overview

Taco Cat is the name the adventuring party goes by. It began as a High Forge crew of musicians, racers and grifters. The party went on to break the Iron Claws' hold on High Forge, resealed the void dragon Astro, and brought the moon goddess Luna back to life. It is now the Twilight Company's strike team against the Eldoran Empire.

Status as of Session 63: In the Eldoran capital, the party has just set off three bombs at once, at the barracks concert hall, the spaceport factory and the university research tower. Bru has stolen the factory's power core, a miniature sun that Scarlet is keeping in her Leomund's Secret Chest. In the research tower the party found six sleeping copies of Elspeth. The session ends with a vote to jump the Bugatti off the fallen tower and over the city wall, with Finnegan waiting at the docks.

Members

  • Silas Fairbanks: Halfling rogue and sorcerer, former manager of the band, and the party's go-between with the void dragon Astro, imprisoned in the orb Rain Goth. His old crew was the Sisyphus Circle.
  • Bru: Goblin artificer, Silas's partner since the Sisyphus Circle, and the party's bomb-maker. His companion is Kevin.
  • Elspeth Cooper: Dwarf artificer and racer, the party's getaway driver. Her companion is BoxBox.
  • Olivia Cooper: Dwarf paladin and retired High Forge detective. Her steed is Bob.
  • Leliana Goldspring / Helisanna Doomfall: One woman with two personas, both played by Luke Neverisky. Helisanna, the bard-warlock frontwoman of Doomfall, was with the party from Session 1. In Session 34 she split in two: Leliana stayed with the party, and Helisanna went her own way with the ravers. In Session 57 Leliana learned that the two are opposite extremes of one person. Since then she can switch between them at will using her brother's Blue Moon guitar.
  • Ohma Kapua: Tortle monk and wrestler, a resistance member who joined in Session 26. He has not been at the table during the Eldoran mission (Sessions 54–63).
  • Scarlet: A three-hundred-year-old elf engineer the party met in Session 25. She keeps the pocket village capsule and travels with the party. The DM usually voices her.

Former members

  • Red (Thurnok Skyhammer): Goliath cleric, merged permanently into his clan's starship in Session 22.
  • Jasper Gaines: Former Eldoran soldier who joined in Session 18 and left in Session 24. He now runs the Gaines Bruery, Bakery and Bankery in Greyport and still helps the party.

Names and Identities

  • The name: A crowd chanted "Taco Cat" as the party's band name during a dance battle (Interlude I). Elspeth raced legitimately as Team Cooper and on the underground circuit as Team Taco Cat (Session 25).
  • Wanted: The Iron Claws put a bounty of 50,000, dead or alive, on "Taco Cat", which brought the Jackals bounty hunters down on the party (Session 25).
  • Pupusa Possum: For the Eldoran infiltration the party posed as a deliberately unimpressive mercenary company whose signature move is to play dead. Silas forged its guild papers (Session 54), and they entered Lord Bradicus's contest under the name (Sessions 55–56). The cover lapsed when they left the contest unfinished and reached the capital by another route (Session 57).
  • The legend: At a factory worker's birthday picnic in the capital, Elspeth told the story of Taco Cat, a band of dwarves, goblins and halflings who saved a dwarven city from a dragon threat, as though it were about strangers (Session 62).

Bases and Vehicles

  • Vehicles: The Zoomfall (the van and mobile base), the Vroomfall (Elspeth's race car), a Ford F-150 from the vault heist that became Chalk Rock's government truck (Session 37), and a Bugatti taken from the Blackstone family's hidden garage (Session 31).
  • The pocket village: A pocket dimension Scarlet, Bru and Elspeth built. It shapes itself to the imaginations of the people inside it and connects to the Lotus Casino. It opened in Session 45, Luna first manifested inside it in Session 46, and Scarlet folded it into a capsule in Session 47.
  • Safe houses: Olivia's apartment in High Forge (Interlude XII), the Twilight Company brownstone in Greyport (Sessions 43–47), and Toothy's apartment in the Eldoran capital (Session 58).

Story So Far

  1. High Forge (Sessions 1–8): Concerts, an underground race Elspeth won, and Twilight Company jobs. The party escaped the city when dragons attacked it (Sessions 6–7).
  2. Milstrom and Grimvar's Spine (Sessions 9–24): Red learned he was a Skyhammer prince, the party rescued Olivia's grandson George, and Red was lost to the Skyhammer starship. Interludes I–XI fall between Sessions 21 and 22.
  3. The Iron Claws (Sessions 25–37): The party returned to High Forge through the tunnels with a bounty on their heads, joined and then broke with the resistance, and killed Helja Ungar in the Forge Heart (Session 36). They spent a month rebuilding the city under Chalk Rock and Grimjaw.
  4. Greyport (Sessions 38–53): The party worked with the Order of St. George to reseal Astro (Session 41), opened the pocket village (Session 45), and met Lady Viper (Session 47). They freed Luna from Eldoran chains and revived her (Session 52), and Leliana's concert raised a new moon over Greyport (Session 53).
  5. The Eldoran Empire (Sessions 54–63): The party infiltrated the Empire through Lord Bradicus's contest (Sessions 54–56), walked Leliana's memories to the capital (Session 57), scouted the Twilight Company's three targets (Sessions 58–61), and bombed them (Sessions 62–63).
