Order of St. George
Dragon Hunters • Greyport • Allies of the Eldoran Empire
Overview
The Order of St. George is a legendary order of dragon slayers based in Greyport. Its knights wear white dragon-bone armour and carry an emblem of a lance piercing a dragon skull. The Order works openly out of the Dragon's Hide, an inn with a whole adult dragon skeleton mounted on its roof. The knights it sends on expeditions are largely mercenaries loyal to whoever pays them, and the Order earns much of its money from dragon parts and from dragon-themed taverns popular with bachelor parties. It is allied with the Eldoran Empire. The two want to turn the weapon that shot down Luna against the dragon god Noraxis, her partner.
Status as of Session 63: still active in Greyport. The Order believes the orb Rain Goth was lost at sea during the rebinding expedition, and its tracking relay has been feeding false coordinates for the other dragon orbs (Sessions 41–42). As far as the recaps show, it has not found out the truth. The party last used its name as a disguise to get close to an Eldoran operation (Session 52).
Members
- Commander Edgar: A very tall dwarf in bone armour, with dragon-bone wings on his greatsword scabbard and a dragon-skull helmet. He beheaded a fleeing Iron Claw and brought the party to headquarters (Session 39).
- Commander Tannondel: The officer who debriefed the party and ran the orb operation. The transcripts garble the name several ways. Her office is papered with rubbings and scripts in several languages (Session 40).
- Bafael: Ohma's monastery brother. He joined the Order to find out what happened to Luna, and he led its expedition to her crash site. He warned the party about the Eldoran alliance (Sessions 40–41).
- Sander: The surviving leader of the Sisyphus Circle. After the massacre a stranger told him to hunt dragons, and he found a home with the Order while working at Jasper's bakery (Session 40).
- Others: Bucky, who scans visitors' magic items with a beeping crystal paddle (Session 39). Leroy and Jenkins, dragon hunters on other ships of the fleet; Jenkins died at sea (Session 42). A horde of about a hundred goblins deploying from the armoury, among them Bru's brother Thru (Session 40).
History
- The Pandora raid: On the night the Sisyphus Circle robbed the Pandora gang's vault in Greyport, the Order raided the gang's headquarters. Its knights tried to stop the crew leaving with the orb (Interlude XIII). Helja Ungar's journals later called the Order a dragon-hunting society (Session 38).
- The bait: When Sander made eye contact with Silas and Bru, Jasper's bakery exploded. Order knights chased the fleeing Iron Claws, beheaded one and took another for questioning. Edgar invited the party back to the Dragon's Hide, and Silas showed him the orb (Session 39). Tannondel later admitted the Order had kept Sander at the bakery as bait, hoping someone would come after him and lead them to the orb (Session 40 transcript).
- The plan: Tannondel explained that the ritual site was an old Aquan holy place near Luna's crash site. The Order would reseal the dragon in the orb there and use instruments during the ritual to find the other orbs. She was surprised Silas had carried the orb without being corrupted. The party was given the run of the armoury (Session 40).
- The Eldoran alliance: Bafael told Ohma privately that the Order was working with the Eldoran Empire from its moon base on a weapon to use against Noraxis (Session 40). The Empire wants the gods dead so that Eldora grows stronger, and the Order wants the dragons dead (Session 41).
- The expedition: Aboard Captain Buckle's commandeered boat, the party staged an arm-wrestling match as a distraction. Meanwhile Bru and Elspeth hijacked the ship's relay, saving the real orb coordinates for the party and sending false ones to the rest of the Order's network. The party then completed the rebinding at Luna's skull (Session 41). When a blue dragon attacked, most of the knights hid or died, and Elspeth radioed headquarters that the orb had fallen into the sea (Session 42).
- The victory picnic: Greyport celebrated the Order's "two and a half dragons" with roasted dragon meat. Tannondel paid each party member 1,000 gold for a "partial success" (Sessions 42–43).
- Borrowed colours: History checks told the party the Order was famous enough that the Eldorans on the barges anchored to Luna's remains would not know its knights by sight. The party posed as an Order patrol to get close, then turned on the Eldorans (Session 52).
