Bafael

Tortle Monk • Ohma's Monastery Brother • Seeker of Luna

Overview​

Bafael is a tortle monk from Ohma's monastery, and Ohma calls him by his old prankster nickname "Rap Sheet". He joined the dragon-hunting Order of St. George to find out what happened to Luna, and he led the Order's expedition from Greyport to her crash site for the rebinding of Astro (Sessions 40–41). He did not come back with the ship. The party believes he stayed near the crash site after the ritual (Session 43), and he has not been seen since.

Background​

  • Monastery: He grew up alongside Ohma, who remembers him as the monastery prankster.
  • Joining the Order: He joined the Order of St. George to learn Luna's fate, not to kill dragons. It was his tortles' study of old Aquan stones that told the Order where the ritual had to happen.
  • The expedition: At the Greyport docks he commandeered Captain Buckle's fishing boat for the voyage ("This was my scheme"). He crewed it with dragon knights he picked because they were mercenaries who would follow whoever paid them.

Views​

  • He warned Ohma that the Order was working with the Eldoran Empire. Eldoran wants to kill the gods so that Eldora grows stronger, the Order wants to kill the dragons, and together they hope to turn the weapon that struck down Luna against Noraxis, her dragon lover.
  • He believes the Order are honourable and will protect the party only while the two sides are aligned. "Eventually, we will have to choose to be their enemy."
  • He pushed the party on their goals ("You fight the dragon. You fight the empire. Are you going to fight everyone?") and argued that destruction is not the same as evil: "A scorpion is a scorpion, right? But is a scorpion evil?"

At the Ritual​

Bafael brought the salt and knew the steps of the rebinding: four violescent spheres, seven circles of salt, and blood given freely into a bowl. He also knew that whoever holds Rain Goth must speak the dragon's name. He had never performed it, and he told the party, "I cannot lead you to this ritual. You lead me to this ritual." On the way down the 300-foot drop to the seabed he showed the monks' wave-dashing descent.

Session History​

  • Session 40 — At the Greyport docks Ohma recognises "Rap Sheet" leading dragon knights and commandeering Captain Buckle's boat. Bafael privately reveals that the Order of St. George is working with Eldoran to use the moon weapon against Noraxis, then briefs the party on the ritual.
  • Session 41 — He tells the party the knights are mercenaries and challenges their ethics, then leads the descent to Luna's skeleton and sets up the ritual that reseals Astro.
  • Session 42 — According to the recap, he helps Ohma throw Victor's sending stone so that it lands beside Luna's skull. He does not return to Greyport with the ship.
