Twilight Company • Explosives and Instruments • Greyport

Overview​

Victor is a scattered, excitable Twilight Company inventor and explosives maker. He was the party's Twilight Company contact in High Forge, then helped run the resistance's bombing campaign there. He now works out of a lab beneath the Greyport Zoo and takes his orders from Lady Viper. As of Session 63 he is in Greyport and did not join the Eldoran infiltration. His bomb designs travelled to the capital anyway, and the party set them aside for Bru's. He considers Bru a dear friend. Most of the party, Silas above all, find him exhausting.

High Forge​

  • The dragon attack (Session 7). During the dragon attack on High Forge, the party drove into the burning Market Ward to pull Victor out of Little Hovel. He was trying to save an armful of essential and ridiculous things: Girl Scout cookies, a piranha gun, and a folder of old tunnel maps whose value he didn't recognize. The maps got the party out through the mines. Victor identified Silas's stolen orb as a communication device to another plane or being.
  • The radio call (Session 24). Bru overheard him on the radio asking a female associate for sulfur. Victor was staying in occupied High Forge, making explosives to hit Iron Claws strongholds, and he offered help with the party's schematics in exchange for their help.
  • The bombing campaign (Sessions 26–28). At the resistance headquarters he ran a chaotic underground lab, dressed in stacked goggles and a singed lab coat. He vetted the party with a chalk-circle Zone of Truth and proposed destroying the Iron Claws' three V production facilities. He started all three bomb timers at once, and his yield calculations were badly off: the first blast rained purple snow over three city blocks. The third "target" turned out to be his own crystal refinement lab. Then he left a note ("Off to get sulfur. Be back later. Take a helmet.") and a communication crown.
  • Dragon dung (Session 32). The party found him collecting dragon dung for explosives. He talked about his history with the Twilight Company and his current independent work, mentioned plans to travel to Greyport, and confirmed that Lady Corwin had been working for the Eldoran Empire.

Greyport​

  • Messages and the sending stone. Bru's recovered recording machine held messages from Victor (Session 37). In Session 40, Bru called him on an ostentatious Victor-branded sending stone and found him at the zoo ("I love the zoo. I've got a membership."), after a dragon egg for an "omelette" experiment. In Session 42, the party threw Bru's stone down to Luna's remains, which made Victor's paired stone the party's line to her.
  • The lab under the zoo (Session 43). The party tracked him to a hidden lab beneath the chimera exhibit, reached by a trapdoor, where a holographic decoy of him sat on the bench. Inside were violescent orbs, gun designs for firing them, and two unsent letters to Bru, one nostalgic and one asking him to lunch and to bring his dowsing rod. His journal said he knew he was being watched. A door from the lab opened straight into the Twilight Company's facility beneath the zoo.
  • Handing over the stone (Session 45). Victor gave Silas the sending stone without protest. He had taken the zoo's security guard, who once shadowed him, under his wing and was trying to find him a place in the Navy. He showed the party his tracking of Eldoran space station teleport sites and his monitoring of dimensional rifts, and lent his calibration instruments to Scarlet, which helped stabilize the pocket village.
  • The pocket village (Session 46). He turned out to have been hiding in a bush in the pocket village through the whole void-being battle. He used the stone link to reach Luna and revealed that he now works with Lady Viper ("Lady Viper tells me how to blow things up now"), which left Bru in tears.
  • Twilight Company headquarters (Session 47). He escorted the party to headquarters as their liaison, couldn't remember the seasonal password, and was sent back to his lab afterward.

In the Eldoran Capital (by proxy)​

In Session 58, the safehouse keeper Toothy handed the party Victor's bomb designs: pressure-cooker devices sketched in the margins of a page torn from a religious text. According to George, Victor had sent the supply list and instructions ahead. Toothy added that Victor had stayed at the safehouse once "and he ruined his room." The party made Bru their explosives expert. In Sessions 59 and 60, they chose Bru's synchronized remote detonators over Victor's timer-based designs. Silas: "Anything that's even remotely like what Victor would do makes me think it's a bad idea."

Relationships​

  • Bru: Victor treats him as his dearest friend and "compatriot" and writes him letters he never sends. Bru was hurt to learn that Victor had "moved on" to Lady Viper.
  • Silas: Avoids talking to Victor as much as possible.
  • Lady Viper: His current director in the Twilight Company.

Session History​

  • Session 7 — Rescued from Little Hovel during the dragon attack; his tunnel maps lead the party out of High Forge, and he identifies Silas's orb as a communication device.
  • Session 24 — Bru overhears him on the radio making explosives against the Iron Claws in occupied High Forge, and he proposes an alliance.
  • Session 26 — The party reaches his operation at the resistance headquarters.
  • Session 27 — Vets the party with Zone of Truth and sends them to bomb three V facilities with simultaneously started timers; his yield estimates prove badly wrong.
  • Session 28 — The third target turns out to be his own lab; he leaves a note and a communication crown and goes off for sulfur.
  • Session 32 — Found collecting dragon dung; mentions a Greyport trip and confirms Lady Corwin's Eldoran ties.
  • Session 40 — Answers Bru's sending-stone call from the Greyport Zoo, wanting a dragon egg for an "omelette."
  • Session 42 — The party throws Bru's stone down to Luna's remains, making Victor's paired stone the party's link to her.
  • Session 43 — The party finds his lab under the zoo, his unsent letters to Bru, and the Twilight Company facility beyond it.
  • Session 45 — Hands Silas the sending stone and lends Scarlet his instruments for the pocket village.
  • Session 46 — Emerges from a bush in the pocket village, reaches Luna through the stone, and reveals he works with Lady Viper.
  • Session 47 — Escorts the party to Twilight Company headquarters, forgetting the password.
  • Session 58 — His margin-note bomb designs reach the party via Toothy in the Eldoran capital, and the party makes Bru their explosives expert instead.
