Very rare magic cloak • Worn by Silas

Overview​

The Cloak of Arachnida is a magic cloak worn by Silas Fairbanks. It lets him walk up walls and across ceilings like a spider. He received it in Session 37 and still wears it as of Session 63, when he used it to climb the elevator shaft of the Research Tower. "I've gotten so much mileage out of this spider climb cloak," he said in Session 58.

Properties​

  • Wall-walking. It lets the wearer walk on walls and ceilings. Silas says it has "revolutionized" what he can do (Session 49). He moves "Spider-Man style" on all fours rather than upright, and the DM pictures the cloak sprouting little spider legs as he climbs.
  • More. Reading it out in Session 37, Silas said it also gives resistance to poison and lets him cast Web, and that it is very rare.
  • Attunement. It needs attunement, so he cannot hand it to a friend on the spot (Session 50).
  • Magic. It shows up to magic scans. It went into the Order of St. George's scanning bucket (Session 39) and got one of the party's dampening stickers (Session 60).

The Session 37 recap spells the name "Cloak of Arachnia".

History​

  • Awarded (Session 37). When the teens handed out the magic items they had found, Silas picked the cloak over a cloak of protection. He moved his protection to a ring instead.
  • Greyport (Sessions 39, 42). Silas walked up a building so the party, carried inside the Portable Hole, could come out onto the rooftops (Session 39). In the sea battle with the dragon he clung to Olivia's back and then to the dragon itself. When it dove he teleported away with a psychic dagger and climbed the side of the ship (Session 42).
  • The orphanage (Session 49). With Olivia stowed in the portable hole, Silas climbed three floors up the outside of the building to a dark office window.
  • Bradicus's manor (Session 55). As the rival crews stampeded for the doors, Silas teleported onto an arch above them and clung there.
  • The World Tree (Session 57). Silas spider-climbed the World Tree as it carried the party up into the Eldoran capital.
  • The Eldoran capital (Sessions 58–63). Silas left the Sexy Peacock through a window and waited out a magic-detection sweep on the roof (Session 58). He carried Bru and Olivia up the factory wall in the portable hole and onto the overseer's gliding office (Session 59), and scouted the furnace from the ceiling (Session 60). At the barracks the rear wall's heat-metal enchantment ruled out walking over it (Session 61). He planted the tower bomb by walking up the elevator shaft (Session 63).

Session History​

  • Session 37 — Silas chooses the Cloak of Arachnida from the magic items the teens hand out.
  • Session 39 — Silas walks up a Greyport building to let the party out of the portable hole onto the rooftops, then surrenders the cloak for the Order of St. George's scan.
  • Session 42 — Silas clings to Olivia and then to the diving dragon before teleporting clear and climbing the ship's side.
  • Session 49 — Silas climbs the outside of the orphanage to a third-floor office with Olivia inside the portable hole.
  • Session 50 — Because the cloak needs attunement, Silas cannot lend it to a friend in time.
  • Session 55 — Silas teleports onto an arch above the stampeding crews at Bradicus's manor and clings to it.
  • Session 57 — Silas climbs the World Tree as it rises into the Eldoran capital.
  • Session 58 — Silas slips out of the Sexy Peacock's window and sits out the magic-detection sweep on the roof, grateful for the cloak.
  • Session 59 — Silas scales the spaceport factory's walls carrying Bru and Olivia in the portable hole, and reaches the overseer's gliding office.
  • Session 60 — Silas scouts the furnace from the factory ceiling, and the cloak gets one of the party's dampening stickers.
  • Session 63 — Silas walks up the research tower's elevator shaft to plant the bomb.
