Portable Hole

Extradimensional storage • Carried by Silas

Overview

The Portable Hole (the "pee hole" at the table) is a folding extradimensional hole that the party has used since the end of Interlude XIII. Silas carries it, as of Session 63. In the Eldoran capital it has held the party's weapons and magic items out of reach of the Magic-Detection Helmets, and it doubles as a way to carry two friends up a wall. It was last used in Session 60 and discussed in Session 61.

Properties

  • Size. Folded, it is fine black cloth the size of a handkerchief. Unfolded against a surface, it opens into a cylinder six feet across and ten feet deep that sits on another plane. It cannot open a passage through a wall, and anyone inside can climb out (Session 38, read out by Silas).
  • Weight. It is limited by space, not weight: roughly three shipping crates of violescence filled it (Session 50). The DM calls it "effectively weightless" (Session 61).
  • Passengers. It holds only two people, which the DM says has long been the table's rule (Sessions 60–61). Someone talking at the opening can be heard inside (Session 49). The DM warned that the unconscious School Master could not breathe in it, so the party tied her up to pull her out (Session 49).
  • The name. Bru's joke that "that's why it's called the pee hole" stuck (Session 38). The Sisyphus Circle called it "the cornhole".

History

The Sisyphus Circle (Interlude XIII). The hole was part of the Sisyphus Circle's kit for the Pandora gang heist, handed out along with spider-climbing slippers, darkvision goggles and an X-ray ring. In the present, when Kevin went to hug Silas, Bru peeled the hole off Kevin's overalls: "Oh, that's where that went." Taylor, guest-DMing, ruled that the party now had a portable hole, subject to Topher's veto. Topher agreed.

Helja's journals and Greyport (Sessions 38–39). Helja Ungar's journals and about 500 pounds of reality stone for the pocket village went into the hole (Session 38). In Greyport Silas carried the party inside it up a wall to the rooftops, and it went into the Order of St. George's scanning bucket with the rest of Bru's magic gear (Session 39).

The orphanage and the loading bay (Sessions 49–50). Silas carried Olivia inside it up the outside of the orphanage. Olivia then laid it beside the office desk, and the School Master fell in and was knocked out (Session 49). At the loading bay the hole took crates of raw violescence until it was full, and the last crate had to go into Bru's Rope Trick (Session 50).

Luna's trench (Session 52). Silas unfurled the hole at the Eldoran Knights' ritual site and poured its violescence into the remains of Luna. The recap says he "unfurls the violescence"; the transcript has him unfurling the pee hole.

The road to Eldoran (Sessions 56–57). In the haunted library, Elspeth borrowed it to lock away the compulsion books (Session 56). The World Seed came out of it to be planted in the Dead Forest. In the capital, the party put its weapons in it to get past the magic detectors (Session 57).

The Eldoran capital (Sessions 58–61). Silas had everyone's weapons in it when the helmet sweep hit the Sexy Peacock (Session 58). He asked for a lead box to hide the hole itself from the sweeps, and carried Bru and Olivia inside it up the Spaceport Factory wall onto the overseer's gliding office (Session 59). Olivia rode inside it for the rest of that day at the factory (Session 60). At the barracks' enchanted rear wall the party worked out a crossing, with two people inside the hole and Leliana levitating it over. The plan was shelved (Session 61).
