Vroomfall

Overview​

The Vroomfall is Elspeth's race car. She drove it in the underground street race in High Forge and in the mountain race, which she won. It was last mentioned in Session 38, when the party towed it out of High Forge behind the van, the Zoomfall. Its whereabouts have been unknown since then.

The Name​

The name riffs on Doomfall, the band. At the table and in many recaps the names of the party's two vehicles were swapped: the van was often called the "Vroomfall" (or "Broomfall" in transcripts), and the unaudited recaps of Sessions 6, 18, 22, 24 and 26 call the race car "the Doomfall". The DM has since settled it: the Vroomfall is Elspeth's race car, the Zoomfall is the van, and Doomfall is only the band. Elspeth raced under the team name Team Cooper (Session 2).

Properties​

  • Paint. Mad Max-inspired (Session 8).
  • Upgrades. Wheel spikes for offense and a spoiler for aerodynamics, fitted before the mountain race. For that race Elspeth planned to power it with the party's crystal collection (Sessions 23–24).
  • Crew space. BoxBox, Elspeth's steel defender, rides in a special compartment, and Olivia rode with her as co-pilot (Session 24).

History​

Elspeth's race car was in the story from the start. The Session 2 recap has her find it tampered with in a rented garage, and a warforged called Racecar warned her she was being targeted. In Session 6 she drove it in the underground street race while the rest of the party ran support from the van, and after the race she loaded it into the van for the escape from High Forge (Session 7). It was given a Mad Max paint job in Session 8.

In the mountain race (Session 24), Elspeth led from early on, dodged boulders thrown by two stone golems, and brought the car to the summit ahead of the field, though the golems had knocked it to about half health. Afterwards she celebrated with a burnout.

In Session 26 the party drew a hidden garage entrance for its vehicles on its way back into High Forge. In Session 38 the party towed the race car out of High Forge behind the van. No later session mentions it.

A miniature of the car went into the train set Elspeth gave Red at the Session 18 gift exchange.

Open Questions​

  • Where is it now? Did it go into the pocket village with the other cars, or was it left somewhere between the Goliath village and Greyport?

Session History​

  • Session 2 — Elspeth signs up as Team Cooper and finds her race car tampered with in a rented garage.
  • Session 6 — Elspeth drives the car in the underground street race, with BoxBox riding in the back.
  • Session 7 — After the race Elspeth loads the car into the van for the escape from High Forge.
  • Session 8 — After the escape from High Forge, the race car is painted in a Mad Max style.
  • Session 23 — Elspeth acquires wheel spikes and a spoiler for the car.
  • Session 24 — Elspeth, with Olivia as co-pilot, drives the upgraded car through golem attacks to win the mountain race.
  • Session 38 — The party leaves High Forge with the Vroomfall towed behind the Zoomfall.
