World Seed

Artifact • Planted in Session 57; now the World Tree in the Eldoran capital

Overview

The World Seed was a seed from Matthew Broadtwig, the dying world tree of the shattered world in Interlude 11. He gave it to Bru to plant at home, saying it would stabilize their reality. The party carried it in the portable hole until Session 57, when they planted it in the Dead Forest beyond the library gateway. It grew into a World Tree that broke through the sky into a park in the Eldoran capital. As of Session 63 the tree stands 50–60 feet tall in that park, still tethered to the dimension it grew from.

History

  • The gift (Interlude 11): Matthew Broadtwig, a city-sized sentient tree whose roots held the shattered world together, gave Bru the seed.
  • The Dead Forest (Session 57): the hag Straenona told the party the only way through the Dead Forest was to bring a new seed and replant it. Bru remembered they had "the world seed in the pee hole". Leliana read the ancient runes marking the base of a Tree of Life. After debating it against Olivia's tomato, the party planted the World Seed together with a cherry tomato and a potato.
  • The World Tree (Session 57): roots surged in, crackling with red lightning, and the tree rocketed skyward. The party, with Straenona, rode it up through the sky into a park in the Eldoran capital. On the game-show feed, vines, tomato plants and a giant potato erupted from the library floor at the tree's far end. When the roots connected, Leliana felt the Dead Forest link back to Helisanna's birth, and understood that she and Helisanna are two extremes of one person.
  • In the capital (Session 63): over two days the tree had grown to 50–60 feet, and its home side had turned lush. The party ranked it a last-resort escape route. Leliana scouted it disguised as a child playing in its branches.
