Dragon Orbs

Overview​

The dragon orbs are the binding artifacts that hold the void dragon Astro, scattered across the world. The party holds one, Raingoth. As of Session 63 none of the others has been collected. The party holds their locations, from the tracking data it stole at the rebinding ritual and from Scarlet's map. In Session 47 the party put the orb expeditions off in favour of the strike on the Eldoran Empire.

Known Sites​

In Session 47 Silas listed three sites from Scarlet's map, each at least a week of travel away:

  • Gnome Territory in Wyol
  • The Warsong Republic, in orc territory
  • The Goblin Enclave on the turtle. In Session 61 Silas reminded the party that "goblins have one of the dragon orbs we got to go after eventually."

The Session 46 recap places the orbs south of Greyport, in gnomish territory, in orc lands and in "Norman territory".

What the Orbs Mean​

  • Astro is not alone in them. In Session 47 Astro told Silas that others are speaking to her, and the party took this to mean through the other orbs.
  • Collecting them has a cost. Silas believes Astro's psychic assault, which hit him when he first touched Raingoth, may grow stronger as more orbs are brought together (Session 46).
  • Three paths. With Luna in Session 46, the party laid out its choices: seal Astro further, release her, or use the other orbs as leverage to negotiate with her. Every path needs the orbs first.
  • The Empire wants them. Eldoran research notes (Session 61) name the dragon orbs as a way to disrupt a runaway harmonic loop, and say the Empire believes it could control the dragons with them. It has not obtained any.

The Tracking Data​

The Order of St. George suspected there was more than one orb and planned to instrument the rebinding ritual to locate the others (Session 40). The party completed the ritual but sabotaged the tracking: Bru and Elspeth routed the real coordinates to a floppy disc and sent false coordinates to every other St. George receiver (Sessions 41–42).

Session History​

  • Session 40 — The Order of St. George fears there is more than one orb and plans to use the rebinding ritual to find the others.
  • Session 41 — The party completes the rebinding but plans to sabotage the Order's tracking so only it will know where the other orbs are.
  • Session 42 — The real coordinates of the other orbs are routed to a floppy disc, showing multiple sites across the region.
  • Session 46 — Scarlet brings a map of the orbs. Luna and the party weigh sealing Astro, releasing her, or negotiating with the orbs as leverage.
  • Session 47 — Silas lists three sites: Gnome Territory in Wyol, the Warsong Republic and the Goblin Enclave on the turtle. Astro says others are speaking to her.
  • Session 61 — Eldoran research names the dragon orbs as a way to break a runaway harmonic loop; the Empire hopes to control the dragons with them but has none.
