Zoomfall

Van and mobile base • Taco Cat's

Overview

The Zoomfall is Taco Cat's van. It has served as tour bus, getaway vehicle, race support car, workshop and home. It was last seen in Session 56. Elspeth drove it in the chase away from Lord Bradicus's estate, and when the party went into the Cornwall Community Library, Scarlet stayed outside to guard it rather than put it away in the pocket village. No later session says where it is.

The Name

The name riffs on Doomfall, the band. At the table and in many recaps the names of the party's two vehicles were swapped, and the van was often called the "Vroomfall" (or "Broomfall" in transcripts). The DM has since settled it: the Zoomfall is the van, and the Vroomfall is Elspeth's race car. Older recaps that call the race car "the Doomfall" also mean the Vroomfall; Doomfall is only the band.

In Session 38, with Helisanna then living apart from the party, the table debated renaming the van. Recapping at the start of Session 39, Bru suggested naming every vehicle after himself, and Silas said the table had decided to keep the name.

Properties

  • Paint job. The party painted it as a disguise for its escape from High Forge (Sessions 7–8). The Session 8 recap describes the design as the "Three Steve Moon": wolves in sunglasses howling at a stylized moon. By Session 26, bounty hunters recognized the painted van on sight.
  • Armament. In Session 6, the party's plan for the underground street race used flamethrower turrets mounted on the van.
  • Cargo. Elspeth's race car rode in or behind it: she loaded her car into the van after the Session 7 race, and the party towed the race car out of High Forge behind it in Session 38.
  • Roof hatch. In Session 56 Olivia leans down through it to talk to Leliana.

History

A van appears in the very first session, when the band debated whether to sleep in it on tour. In Session 4 the party caught three gnomes inside it building a bomb. They had been hired to sabotage the party's car. In Session 7, fleeing High Forge after the race, the party interrogated Victor inside it and planned to paint it as a disguise. By Session 8 it was painted and had come out of the tunnels under the city into the foothills, travelling with a caravan of fleeing citizens and merchants.

It carried the support crew for Elspeth's races. In the mountain race (Session 24), Silas and Helisanna rode in it scouting ahead, and the van team's dynamite set off an avalanche that cleared a path for Elspeth. Before the High Forge operation, Elspeth and Silas priced armor for it at Mr. X's garage: 1,000 gold for plating and 5,000 for crystal force fields. They could not afford either (Session 25).

During Arc 2 it became the party's mobile base. Scarlet set up an experimentation space and a small living area in it (Session 35). After Helja's fall it stood at the High Forge gates as a "bubble" of safety, and Elspeth spent her downtime working on it (Session 37). The Session 37 recap credits this to Olivia; the transcript shows it was Elspeth. In Session 38 the party held its family brunch there, then left High Forge in the van, towing the Vroomfall, with the Bugatti alongside.

By the time the party reached Greyport (Session 44), Scarlet had taken over every workspace in the van and left scorch marks across its interior. She also told Bru she had "mostly poured it out", meaning his stored brown, which made him furious. The party piled back in to take her to Iro's workshop. In Session 45 Silas told her, "I liked you better when you were just in the van all the time".

The party did not take its own vehicles into the Eldoran Empire at first. In Sessions 54–55 they travelled in a borrowed wagon and kept their cars in the pocket village. In Session 56 the van was back on the road. Elspeth Tokyo-drifted it out of the cookout at Bradicus's estate and chased down the cowboy gang's truck while Bru threw fireworks through the cowboys' window. When Leliana's memories of the library returned, she lunged for the wheel, and Silas suplexed her back into her seat.
