Cooper Racing Crystal

Magic item • Whereabouts unknown

Overview

Race cars on the circuit run on registered violescence crystals. The Cooper family has two crystals. Before the Greyport Speedway finale, Elspeth's brother Zachary Cooper switched her registered crystal for the family's other, unregistered one. Race officials found the "wrong crystal", and her 20-year career ended in disgrace. Where either crystal is now is not recorded.

Whose Crystals

  • In Interlude 14, voicing Zachary, Ali Leonard said: "I got my dad's crystal and I got her car."
  • The Interlude 15 recap calls Elspeth's registered crystal "their mother's Cooper crystal". After that race, Ali Leonard explained at the table that the family has two crystals. The registered one was "her mom's crystal… the Cooper crystal, which was Olivia's", and it was switched out "for the other family crystal".

Olivia is Elspeth's grandmother, so the registered crystal was her grandmother's.

History

  • The frame-up (Interludes 14–15): six rival racers, with Tito Bonito of the racing board, set out to disgrace Elspeth. Zachary, who wanted her seat, worked with Tito. His crystal swap was the evidence that finished her: using an unregistered crystal is grounds for a ban.
  • Zachary exposed (Session 50): by Session 50 Elspeth knew that Zachary had tampered with her violescence crystal, replacing it with an unregistered one, and that only he could have reached it. Elspeth found him in his garage blaming "the stupid crystal" for his car's balance. She punched him; he was wearing a helmet, and her hand took the damage. That day she won Denlin's race in Denlin's car.
