Bugatti
Stolen luxury car • Taco Cat's getaway car
Overview
The Bugatti is a luxury car that Bru and Silas stole from the Blackstone family's hidden garage in the mountains outside High Forge. It belongs to Taco Cat. It was last seen in Session 54, when the party left it stowed in the pocket village and did not take it into the Eldoran Empire. It has not been seen since, but the party still counts on it. At the end of Session 63, with bombs going off across Eldoran and the research tower collapsed against the city wall, Silas voted to drive it off the tower and over the wall. He said this after the DM had ended the session, so the jump has not happened and nothing has been decided.
Properties
- A four-seater, just about. When the party wants to pack Belspeth Booper and her manager into it along with themselves (Session 48), the DM says only four people really fit, then lets them make it fit.
- The "First Bank of Bugatti." In Session 37 Bru stored the party's 26,000 gold in it: "What better place for it to be safe than inside the Bugatti?" From then on the table calls it "the bank of Bugatti". Bru was still paying for shopping out of it in Session 45.
- Pepsi's mount. In Session 37 Bru promised the baby dragon Pepsi a mount on top of the car so he could ride along at speed. The Session 37 and 38 recaps say it was built.
History
The theft (Session 31)
After the vault heist, the party found a mountain cabin with an underground garage beneath it. The garage held six or seven luxury vehicles, among them a McLaren, a G-Wagon and the Bugatti. Records in the attached study tied the Blackstone family to the Eldoran Empire. The party split over whether to steal anything. Elspeth refused to let stolen parts near her vehicles, and Olivia tried to physically stop the others, but Bru started the Bugatti and drove it out. Silas brought this up in Session 48: "Even when you guys were actively trying to stop us from stealing the Bugatti, we still stole it."
Tribute to the dragons (Sessions 32–37)
At the dragon tribute drop-off, the party offered the Bugatti alongside the vault gold to the dragons Duncan and Betty. In return the dragons agreed to strike at Helja Ungar's fortress rather than raze all of High Forge. The dragons took it. By Session 35 the party was grumbling that "they have our Bugatti". Silas's player later said the theft had turned out to be the key to the whole affair.
After Helja's fall, Bru and Silas went up the mountain pass to the dragons' nest and found the Bugatti there. It was covered in mud, as if someone had been doing donuts in it the whole time. This comes from the Session 37 transcript; the recap leaves out the recovery. They also found 26,000 gold at the nest. With the stolen liquor still in the back, the two of them and Pepsi drank a toast to their fallen crew.
On the road (Sessions 38–48)
In Session 38 the party drove out of High Forge in the van, the Zoomfall, towing Elspeth's race car, the Vroomfall, with the Bugatti alongside and Pepsi now riding on it. The F-150 stayed behind with Chalk Rock. The DM noted that it was "logistically challenging" to bring the Bugatti everywhere. Silas's answer was to finish the pocket village and give it a garage. Once the village was finished, the car was kept inside it.
In Greyport (Session 48), Bru deployed the pocket village and pulled the Bugatti out to pose as the car service for Belspeth Booper and her manager Cringe. Silas wrecked the real car, which carried her racing team's decals, with a thrown dagger. Bru then used an illusion to give the Bugatti near-copies of those decals, with the party's own names worked in. Belspeth and Cringe got in. Once the doors closed, they realised they were being kidnapped.
Left behind (Session 54 onward)
For the job in Little Cradle, Lady Viper left the party a motorized wagon. Silas argued for taking the Bugatti. Olivia pointed out that they needed to stay under the radar rather than travel in their very identifiable vehicles, and the DM said he would not advise taking the Bugatti. So the party took the wagon and kept its own cars fueled in the pocket village for a fast exit.
In Session 62 Silas pitched the ideal escape from the capital: "peel out in the Bugatti and just do like a sick jump". Finnegan was asked to scout the exits: a ramp, a boat or the sewers. At the start of Session 63 the party ranked the ramp jump as Plan A. When the session ended, the research tower was leaning on the city wall and Silas asked whether it was rampable.
