Belspeth Booper

Dwarf • Racing Driver • "The Other Cooper"

Overview

Belspeth Booper is a dwarf racing driver with the same build and face as Elspeth Cooper, and a name that echoes hers. She was raised in Denlin's Greyport orphanage, and Denlin named her when she arrived. He is the racing team owner who framed Elspeth and ran a violescence operation out of the orphanage. She drove for his team as a blocking driver, finishing fifth every race so that his lead car could finish fourth. She was last seen in Session 50, finishing second to Elspeth after Denlin was arrested, when Elspeth told her the police would want to speak with her. Her whereabouts since then are unknown.

Background

  • Raised by Denlin: She has no memory of any name, family or life before the orphanage, and Denlin is the only father she knows. She believes the orphanage is a good place and did not connect the sick children to violescence exposure (Session 48).
  • Her role: "Every team has a lead driver and he's the best, so I help him so we can win." Her manager was a man called Cringe (Session 48).
  • Not a coincidence: The DM made clear that her resemblance to Elspeth is not accidental (Session 48). In the orphanage's "Routine" room, the party found an adult Elspeth look-alike and three teenage dwarves in tanks beside violescence-powered racing simulators, being conditioned by Dr. Vasela. The party concluded that Belspeth came out of that programme (Session 49).
  • The name: In Session 45 Elspeth used the name "Belith Booper" for a British-accented disguise, and within hours a zoo crowd mistook her for a famous racer of that name. The real Booper, a dwarf woman with a goblin manager, was complaining loudly in the ticket line. Someone had placed a classified ad saying she would be at the zoo.

Relationship with Elspeth

Elspeth found the likeness unsettling from the start: "I hope I'm not related to this girl." In Session 48 she took a strand of Belspeth's hair from the wreckage of Denlin's car for a DNA test, with Chalk Rock and Lady Viper as possible testers. When Silas, posing as her biographer, pressed her in Session 48, Belspeth dismissed Elspeth's twenty years of clean wins: "Sounds like you have no skill." Before the Session 50 race, Elspeth sent her a message about the orphanage and what had been happening there.

In Session 63 the party found six more sleeping Elspeth copies in the Eldoran research tower, being trained as shock troops. Silas remembered that the Elspeth look-alikes from Denlin's orphanage had been brainwashed rather than permanently changed.

Session History

  • Session 45 — Elspeth's new disguise name, "Belith Booper," turns out to belong to a real racer. A dwarf woman with an entourage claims it in the zoo ticket line, backed by a classified ad announcing her visit.
  • Session 48 — The party learns she is Denlin's driver, raised in his orphanage. Silas's biographer act fails, and the party picks her and her manager Cringe up in a disguised car. She explains she is a blocking driver who finishes fifth every race, and Elspeth takes a strand of her hair.
  • Session 49 — Silas, posing as Cringe, tells Denlin that Belspeth is running wild at an afterparty to draw off his men. In the orphanage's Routine room the party finds dwarves in conditioning tanks, the adult among them resembling Elspeth, and concludes that Belspeth came from there.
  • Session 50 — With Denlin arrested, Elspeth races his car in disguise and beats Belspeth to first place by two tenths of a second, then tells her the police will want to speak with her.
