Gary

Wrestling Champion • Son of Fluke • Brother of Iro

Overview

Gary is a professional wrestler, the son of Fluke of the Steve Squad and the brother of Iro. He was undisputed champion for 250 years. He retired at Razlemania in Greyport in Session 51, after the party helped save the event from a demon faction. That same night Crowley lured him through a portal, and he has not been seen since.

Background

  • Family: Iro keeps clippings of Gary's wrestling career on his memorial wall at Fluke's Workshop (Session 44). Iro and Gary tagged together a hundred years ago (Session 51).
  • The champion: A museum at the Razlemania arena records his 250-year reign, his famous frying pan ("to bonk demons on the head with divine justice"), and his only attempted heel run, which lasted about two seconds before he apologised (Session 51). Olivia ranks him as an icon on the scale of a major sports franchise.

Razlemania

His retirement match was held in an island arena off the coast of Greyport, and Iro gave the party backstage passes (Session 51):

  • Balthazar's Demon Squad, Gary's old rivals, burst into the opening match. They chained the wrestlers and launched Gary's throne into orbit on hellfire rockets ("Oh, shoot"). The Knights of Eldora then arrived to challenge the demons.
  • The party wrestled as a third faction. When they polymorphed the giant Balthazar into a tiger shark, Iro lariated it into Gary's path. Gary came back through the atmosphere like a meteorite and finished Balthazar with a spear and a guillotine grip on the ring ropes, as the crowd chanted "Thank you, Gary."
  • He vacated the belt and thanked the party: "Thanks for making this a special night, guys. I think wrestling is going to be in good hands." Silas handed him a note reading "All things are possible through Luna," and he took it.

Taken by Crowley

On his way home through the back alleys, a portal opened and Crowley asked, "Say, Gary, would you like a piece of candy?" Gary stepped through. Crowley had waited for him to retire, because a reigning champion could only have been challenged in the ring. Gary had promised to give the party a sending stone for reaching his aunt Caspian the next day; Crowley holds her too, alive. In Session 52 the party set out to fetch it from Iro's workshop.

Session History

  • Session 51 — At Razlemania, his retirement match, he is rocketed into orbit by the Demon Squad, returns to finish off Balthazar, vacates the belt, and thanks the party. On the way home he steps into Crowley's portal.
