Crowley

Overview​

Mr. Crowley is a fae who deals in bargains and has been the party's recurring otherworldly enemy since Session 9. He wears a white suit and an opera mask and has pointed teeth, and he is charming in a disturbing way. The party gave him a fox totem that let him attack the fae spirit Toonlock, then helped Toonlock escape him, and since then Crowley has treated them as personal enemies. He knows their names, including Red's true name. He still holds Caspian, the Winter King's assistant and Iro's aunt, whom he took in Session 18; she is alive. In Session 51 he lured the retired wrestling champion Gary through a portal, and neither has been seen since.

Known Deeds​

  • Bori's bargain (Session 9): Crowley took the consciousness of a boy, Bori, who traded it to save his mother's life. He offered to restore Bori in exchange for a fox-shaped fae totem from a shrine in the woods. The party delivered it and Helisanna shook on the deal. Elspeth identified the totem as a fae anchor for the spirit Toonlock.
  • Toonlock's realm (Interludes 1–6): Crowley used the totem to reach Toonlock's domain and began tearing it apart. The party gathered a mask, a priest's stole and a dagger so Toonlock could cut his realm free of the astral tree. At the last moment Crowley froze time and offered the party one last chance to back out. When they refused, he told them he had captured Caspian and knew all their names. Toonlock finished the ritual anyway.
  • Caspian (Session 18): As Caspian, the Winter King's assistant, left Milstrom after the solstice, Crowley caught her in a starless void, greeted her as an "old friend" and blew out his candle. He confirmed he had her in Interlude 6. She is alive and still his prisoner.
  • The cooking show (Interludes 8–9): He hosted and judged a dream cooking competition in which the party were the ingredients, and lost control of it when they derailed the final challenge.
  • Velz'eth (Interlude 10): The chaos god Velz'eth told the party that Crowley, under the name "Fergus the Serpent Tongue", cheated him out of his power and left him trapped. Velz'eth said Crowley is working with the "Moon Queen", Eldora, to build a world of "cold steel and blind salvation". Velz'eth enchanted the party's items with "seeds of rupture" meant for use against Crowley and Eldora.
  • Gary (Session 51): Crowley waited until Gary retired, since a reigning champion could only have been challenged in the ring, then called to him from a portal in a Greyport alley: "Say, Gary, would you like a piece of candy?" Gary stepped through.

Session History​

  • Session 9 — At a crossroads he offers to restore the comatose boy Bori in exchange for a fox totem, then accepts it and vanishes into the earth.
  • Session 18 — Dressed as a caroler, he traps Caspian in a void as she leaves Milstrom and greets her as an old friend.
  • Interlude 1 — The party learns he is using the fox totem to ransack Toonlock's realm and agrees to help Toonlock.
  • Interlude 6 — He freezes time to threaten the party, reveals he has captured Caspian and knows all their names, Red's true name included, and fails to stop Toonlock's ritual.
  • Interlude 8 — He hosts and judges a deadly dream cooking show in which the party are the ingredients.
  • Interlude 9 — He loses control of the cooking show as the party derails the dessert-castle challenge.
  • Interlude 10 — Velz'eth reveals that Crowley, as "Fergus the Serpent Tongue", stole his power, and says Crowley is allied with Eldora.
  • Session 51 — He lures the newly retired Gary through a portal with an offer of candy.
